While most 180mm bikes are targeted towards the gravity racing realm, Commencal took a different approach with the new Supreme SX. While they still believe in the pursuit of speed, the goal was to create a big bike that was all about fun and sending big lines.
To make this possible, they’re using a new suspension configuration called high pivot point or HPP. First debuted on the World Cup proven Supreme DH, the main pivot is located midway up the seat tube. This placement allows for better rearward travel, which offers improved stability and grip.
The downside to this system is pedal kickback. To minimize these effects, Commencal has routed the chain near the main pivot. Other brands have used similar designs, but the HPP system looks cleaner than most.
The Supreme SX borrows this DH inspired technology and pairs it with geometry you can pedal uphill. It has a 65-degree head angle, steep 75-degree seat angle, and short 425mm chainstays.
The bike is available as a frame or with one build kit that retails for $ 3699. That price gets you a RockShox Lyric fork, RockShox Super Deluxe rear shock, SRAM Guide brakes, SRAM GX 1×11 drivetrain, RockShox Reverb dropper post, and a smattering of Commencal branded cockpit components.
