Lizard Skins Monitor gloves review

Lizard Skins Monitor Review

Aside from a few grease stains, these gloves have held up admirably to several months of hard use.

What is it

Hear the name Lizard Skins and most of us immediately think mountain bike grips and bar tape. But the company that turns 25 years old this winter also makes a full line of riding gloves, including the slip-on-style Monitor full-finger Mtbr reviewed here. All told, Lizard Skins sells 31 different pairs of gloves (16 full-finger, 15 short-finger), and they all come in an array of sizes and colors with supple AX suede palms, touchscreen compatibility, and articulated fingers.

Pros
  • Lightweight
  • Breathable
  • Touchscreen compatible
  • Silicone print on key fingertips improves grip
  • Supple and durable suede palm
  • No Velcro to wear out
  • Articulated fingers
  • Comfortable slip-on design
  • Available in six sizes
  • Available in four colors
  • Reasonably priced
Cons
  • A little on the bright side

Fingers are touchscreen compatible and have strategically-placed printing to enhance grip.

Mtbr’s Take

I like my mountain bike gloves simple and that’s why the Lizard Skins Monitor get such high marks. The no-frills, slip-on design with supple suede palm offers a snug, secure, and very comfortable fit without the need for a Velcro strap (which would eventually wear out).

The articulated design means less uncomfortable bunching at the base of the fingers, and they lack superfluous exterior padding, which keeps weight low and breathability high. They’re also touchscreen compatible, so you can update Instagram without taking your gloves off.

The suede palms and articulated fingers make for a comfortable fit.

Most importantly, they’ve proven to be well made and very durable. Through several months of testing (plus a handful of trips through the washing machine) there’s been no stitch fraying or failure, and they’ve held up to the rigors of several unscheduled get-offs. If only I could say the same for my aging body…

No, I don’t love how bright the bright yellow is, but they come in three other color options if the glowing look isn’t your thing. Bottom line, this is a no-nonsense, reasonably priced glove, that’s proven to be durable, functional, and very comfortable.
